Again Synergy Racing can give thanks to our friend Richard Morauer for letting us work and experiment with his #12 Synergy Competition build car. Richard shares the same passion for carbon fiber as myself, so I was both honored and excited that he blessed us to engineer his most recent purchase of a complete carbon dash for the Porsche 997.

Pictures just can not do this upgrade justice. Being one of the first one ever installed in a 997 street car there was a lot of thought that had to be given to the lay out and installation. The stock original dash has so many attachment points; where as the carbon dash being so light has no OEM attachment points. We are attempting to run the car directly off an AIM data logger and not the original dash cluster. We were very fortunate to have a previous upgrade of Richard's come into play; removable Lexan front windscreen. This option of being able to remove the windscreen safely and quickly greatly added to the success of the installation.

With having a carbon blank to work with we dicided to make the wiring behind the dash access friendly by using 5mm screws and nut certs for durability. This also allowed us to bring the AIM data logger back a little since the stock guage cluster was deleted. Hopefully this will help enhance the view of the AIM dash and cut down on glare since it is now nestled into the dash hood. The center dash panel where the Navigation screen would be is also removable with four 5mm screws. This also offers us easy access to wiring and helps when servicing or upgrading the switch selection.

The option existed to remove a lot of the original framing for the stock dash and really lower the weight of the car but we decided to have some durable mounting points for the dash instead. The total weight savings is 25 pounds of high placed weight on the car. Another added plus is the top of the dash is not clear coated like the rest of the components to cut down on the glare. The whole dash is held in with 6 screws and opposed to the original 18 or so screws that you had before.

We are looking forward to doing some testing with this upgrade at the next VIR Member Weekend and really putting it through its paces come the NASA race weekend. Thanks again go out to Richard for his vision and passion for carbon fiber.
